Payroll Manager

In this position, you’ll join a highly experienced team of professionals who have been in the tree care industry for more than 44 years, Professional Tree Care Co. (see professional tree care dot com and green waste recycle yard dot com)
The person who fills this position must be great at payroll but also good at working with a wide variety of people. He/She/They must be comfortable calling and meeting workers on a daily basis. It will be your job to contact employees about incorrect time tracking, and go into the field to train staff how to use our new ADP payroll software on their phones. You’ll also work with HR to introduce benefits such as 401(k) at up to five locations throughout the Greater Bay Area.

WHY YOU’RE SUCH A GREAT FIT FOR THIS ROLE
- You have DEEP ADP (specifically ADP Payroll) experience. You know their payroll systems, have used it for several years, know the ins-and-outs plus a variety of versions.
- You have management training and experience, which is important since you’ll serve on the accounting department’s management team and may have one direct-report in the future.
- You have experience with Union/Certified/Prevailing Wage payroll. This is important since you'll be running it on your own.
- You’re authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship, of course.
- Bonus points for:
- Having gone through a payroll software transition or upgrade. We’re moving from WorkforceGo to ADP.
- Having a college degree is a plus, especially a degree in accounting, finance, economics, or business.
- Being bilingual English/Spanish; again, not required but a huge plus.
- Ability to focus in a shared, often chatter-filled open environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Serve as the sole person responsible for processing all payroll across the company. You’ll be the one to guarantee timely and accurate delivery of employee compensation for up to 99 Bay Area employees.
- Going out into the field to train staff to use our new/upcoming ADP application on their smartphones. You and our H.R. Specialist will lead training at four or more locations.
- Working full-time on-site on the second floor of a building that does not have an elevator.
- Accurately processing hourly and certified payroll once per week and salaried payroll bi-monthly, including overtime, commissions, bonuses and all applicable taxes, 401(k) contributions, health insurance premiums, and perks associated with prevailing wage/union wages.
- Implement and maintain the latest version of ADP software.
- Create reports that outline deductions, overtime, tax liabilities, etc.
- Review payroll data accuracy and comply with local/state/Federal regulations ensuring all payroll tax filings are correctly submitted.
- Work alongside Human Resources on benefits, PTO-related deductions, employee payroll records, promotions/wage increases, separations/final checks, tax forms, and attendance data.
- Collaborate with other accounting- and office-related managers; provide managerial advice to them, as requested, and share management training tips.
- Eventually/Possibly lead and train a Payroll Specialist to use ADP, assigning and prioritizing tasks and monitoring performance.
- Other payroll and accounting functions as you’re able.
COMPENSATION AND FURTHER DETAILS
This is a full-time/permanent position that comes with medical, dental, and optical insurance paid at One Hundred Percent (100%) after 90 days of employment.
The person who is accepts this role must be be thoroughly satisfied with a salary within the budget range of $85,000.00 to $92,000.00 if they meet all of the requirements above including management experience and training.
