Based in West Berkeley, we service commercial, residential, and public works projects from Mendocino to Monterey, and from San Francisco to Sacramento. We are known for excellent customer service, and the ability to remove enormous trees using large cranes and heavy equipment.
What makes us unique? We recycle material removed from job sites at our own Green Waste Recycle Yard, mill logs into boards and create organic mulch from the wood chips. We also have the staff, equipment, resources, and experience to perform tree services at any scale.
Position Overview
PTC is seeking a Certified Arborist & Estimator to join one of our sister-companies as part of a two-person residential sales team. In this role, you will serve as the technical lead alongside a sales professional who is developing industry knowledge. You will provide estimates and expert recommendations to clients while offering technical guidance, training, and support to your sales partner to ensure client needs are met.
The position is ideal for someone combines strong arboriculture expertise with the ability to build lasting client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a sales representative and trusted advisor to customers.
- Conduct site visits to assess trees and customer needs. This includes doing walkthroughs, comprehensive assessments examining tree health, structural integrity, and signs of disease, pests, or hazards such as falling limbs.
- Explain/educate clients about what you observed, answer questions, identify risks, and discuss options for care or removal. Include information regarding non-chemical plant health care options such as compost tea and biochar.
- Use software and a laptop to prepare accurate estimates, proposals, and contracts that include everything the crew will need to get the job done: project specifications, photos, addresses, GPS coordinates for each tree, notes, etc.
- Collaborate with operations and accounting teams to ensure estimates align with field execution (a/k/a job costing).
- Serve as the technical lead while offering technical guidance, training, and support to your sales partner.
Requirements
- Professional experience in tree care as an arborist, estimator, or related role that deals tree/project assessment.
- Arborist certifications: Current or recent certifications from ISA (International Society of Arboriculture / ISA-arbor dot com) OR current or recent certifications from TCIA (Tree Care Industry Association / treecareindustryassociation dot org)
- Strong technical knowledge of tree biology, pruning practices, and hazard assessment.
- Excellent communication, customer service and follow-through skills.
- Valid California driver’s license with a clean driving record: no points.
- Reliable transportation to all projects. (NOTE: Mileage reimbursement provided; company vehicle is not.)
- Clean criminal background history for at least 10 years.
- At least two positive professional references from companies you’ve worked for recently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Having served on a tree care team in the position of Climbing Arborist, Foreman, Project Manager, or Leadership.
- Tech/computer savvy and familiar with a tree-related estimation software that stores info. needed for your crew to do the job: GPS location of specific trees, photos, client info. (repeat customer, property/estate manager, etc.)
- Bilingual English/Spanish.
- Experience converting leads into projects through consultative sales practices and clear communication.
- Familiarity with residential sales processes and estimating.
- Your daily commute to Berkeley, CA is 40 minutes or less.
Compensation and Benefits
- $80,000.00 base salary in year-one with potential for performance-based incentives in year-two.
